Apart from Porsche, I am also a big BMW fan.
Swissvax : “ Selina, thank you for taking the time to give us an insight. You are a relatively young mechanic. Was it difficult for you to decide to take the job ?”
Selina : Hello, I'm really looking forward to the interview. It was always clear to me that I would do what my dad does. When someone asked me that as a child, my answer was always "I'm going to be a mechanic", so no, it was very easy for me.
Swissvax : “ Why did you choose to become a mechanic? ”
Selina : I did several internships during my time at school, of course - some in very different areas, and I didn't like any of them 100%. Since my dad is my absolute role model, I decided to become a mechanic. I didn't know if I would like it then either. Since I found my father's knowledge so fascinating, I just wanted to learn what he knew. And in the end, it worked out.
Swissvax : “ How do men react when you explain to them what problems their classic car has and how you are going to fix it? ”
Selina : To be honest, I hardly have any problems or difficulties. The feedback from our customers has always been good.
Swissvax : “ What did you prefer to play with as a child: cars or dolls? ”
Selina : Definitely both... But I was always a total Lego kid, especially Lego Technic. Of course, dolls were also part of the classic game.
Swissvax : “ You also drive on the race track from time to time. Is that right? What is your favorite car on the track? ”
Selina : Yes, I have been a co-driver in my father's 991 Cup several times, but I have only actually driven one myself once - that was at the Red Bull Ring at the Ventilspiel event. In Austria I drove my Porsche 1984 G-model on the race track for the first time, when it still had the 3.2l engine.
Swissvax : “ What is your relationship with your cars? ”
Selina : Phew, that's a difficult question. My G-model is definitely something special for me compared to my everyday car. I always have a grin on my face when I look at my classic car and think about everything I still want to do until it's the way I imagine it. There's still a long way to go and I'm looking forward to it.
Swissvax : “ Which car would you like to drive and why? ”
Selina : I have several models on my list. Porsche is at the top and the new GT3 RS and Taycan Turbo S are right at the top.
Swissvax : “ How does an electric car like the Taycan suit you ?”
Selina : We don't stand still and the modern technology of a Taycan fascinates me. The topic is controversial and nobody knows whether electric cars are the future or not. Of course, technically it's something completely different, no more mechanics, which is where I feel at home. But the sheer power and acceleration really impresses me. And on short trips, for me, for example, to the workshop and back - why not?
Swissvax : “ Which car would you like to take completely apart and rebuild? ”
Selina : Definitely a 930 Turbo. But first I have to do my G model. I'm currently building a completely new engine for it. It's going to be a 3.8L engine, I can already reveal that. Apart from the mechanics, the car will be completely dismantled, rebuilt and painted. It's pretty battered from the ice races and has earned the complete treatment.
Swissvax : “ Will the new engine have over 9,000 rpm? ”
Selina : Who knows.
Swissvax : “ You personally work a lot on air-cooled 911s. Are you also enthusiastic about vehicles from other manufacturers? ”
Selina : Apart from Porsche, I'm also a BMW fan and have been driving an E90 as a daily driver for 3 years. The car has never let me down. My boyfriend also drives a BMW, an E36, which are great to look at, great to drive and a lot of fun in the winter (laughs).
Swissvax : “ Please describe a typical trip. How does it feel for you, what goes through your mind? ”
Selina : Because of my job, I don't have much time for trips. Most recently, I was a guest and co-driver with my friend Verena Proebst. She organizes her own rally, the FalkenhausenClassic, which I was allowed to take part in. A great experience! You feel like you've been transported back in time. Each car has its own character and you get to know lots of great people.
Swissvax : “ What do you personally associate with Care for your Dream? ”
Selina : I've read that sentence many times and I think it's great. Everyone has their own dream in their head and I think you should work on it every day to make it come true. And when the dream becomes reality, you should continue to nurture it and "dream" it. My dream is my G-model and my job as a mechanic, both of which I "nurture" practically every day.
Swissvax : “ What is your best moment or experience with or in a Porsche so far? ”
Selina : I think it was when I drove out of the pits at the valve clearance on the Red Bull Ring onto the track and to the start line. I was incredibly excited and happy at the same time. I will never forget that, it was a really great experience and I will definitely go again.
Swissvax : “ You are currently restoring an old Porsche, which one is it and what do you personally associate with this car? ”
Selina : This is a 1984 G-model. It originally had a 3.2l engine, but that is no longer in it. My dad imported it from Japan a few years ago and used it as an ice racing car at the Lungauring. When Corona started, these races were canceled and it was in our hall. In autumn 2020, I took it out of the hall and started tinkering with it a bit, installed a brake system from the 996 and optimised various other things.
Swissvax : “ And what about Verena’s red Porsche? Isn’t that also a project for both of you? ”
Selina : I was very pleased that she entrusted me with her red 911. The car used to belong to her mother and she has a lot of memories associated with it. We overhauled the engine together. It was a real "heart project" for me. Working with Verena is always great fun.
Swissvax : “ Perhaps a tip from you: how do you get your fingernails clean and ready for the weekend? ”
Selina : Super easy to scrub with a craftsman's brush and soap until they are clean but to be honest they usually break off during the week and are just not nice to look at but I don't really care.
